It's Happening in 5th Grade!

Frog Welcome to 5th Grade! We are going to have a wonderful year. Please make sure that you check our blog on a regular basis for homework assignments, school news, and parent information.

Your job is to come to Murdock prepared to learn. This includes completing all homework assignments, studying for tests, getting a good night's sleep, eating a healthy breakfast and packing all your necessary supplies each night. Remember, it is your responsibility as a student to do all of these things.

Thanks!

Thanks for a great year! We know that each and every one of your will have many successes in middle school. To both parents and students, we would like to thank you for the darling beach towels and monetary gift. Both will be enjoyed! Have a terrific summer. Keep reading and writing!

The End Is Near!

School The end of the year is upon us again!  We would like to remind you of several important and exciting events that will take place during the last week of school.

These events will be filled with memories for all our 5th grade students.  To make these memories extra special, we would like for all students to participate and cooperate.

The first of these activities takes place on Wednesday, May 13th - Field Day. Please remember to wear class t-shirts, shorts, tennis shoes and put on sunblock prior to coming to school.

Monday, May 18th is the 5th Grade Picnic.  Students should wear class T-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes again. Further information will be provided in a letter from the Room Parents.

On Tuesday, May 19th,  we will have our Final Reward.  On this day, students who have earned the reward should bring in snacks and  sodas to enjoy while watching a reward movie.

The next activity will be on Wednesday, May 20th.  This day is Game Day.  Students are encouraged to bring in cards or board games to play with their friends.  Students are responsible for any items brought into school for this activity.

Thursday, May 21st will be Fifth Grade’s Annual Read In!!! Literature and reading will be celebrated all day.  We will have a book swap, watch a video , and curl up to read our books.  Students may bring in pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, snacks, and soft drinks.  The book swap will allow students to swap between 1-4 read books for unread books.  This is a lot of fun, so please ensure your child comes to school with everything he/she will need for a day of reading.

Friday, May 22nd is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, and  THE CELEBRATION FOR 5th GRADE STUDENTS.  Parents should meet their child in the covered play area at 11:15AM. Please take traffic and parking into consideration as you plan your arrival time. If the parking lot is full, parents are asked to park on Village Drive rather than Murdock Road.  (Pass Murdock on the left and it is the next road on the right). Two guests per student are invited. No more guests are permitted due to a small seating area. Students and guests should wear dress clothes.  The last activity of the day will be the FIFTH GRADE FINAL WALK THROUGH THE BUILDING.  During this time the students and parents will take  a parting walk through the Murdock building, while all the younger classes and teachers line the hallways to say good-bye and good luck to our departing fifth graders.  This is the fifth graders’ last walk through Murdock as students before they depart to middle school.  It is a chance to think of past memories and to say good-bye.  After the final walk, students leave with their parents.  This should be around 1:30PM

Market Day

Snowman The holiday season is upon us!

This year 5th graders will have a holiday activity that is fun for anyone who likes to go shopping!

The students have to create 30 products to bring in Thursday, December 18th.  If working with a partner, the pair must create 60 products (30 each).  They can also bring things to make their store more popular with the holiday shoppers!  These items could include store name signs, table coverings, etc.

Each child will have an opportunity to shop at other stores as well as sell the product they created.  They will be given a holiday "credit card" with 30 "dollars" to use for purchases at their peers' stores.  Therefore, you will receive 30 different products equal to the 30 products that you created.  We ask that each child bring in a bag (plastic grocery is perfect) in which to put their purchases.

Happy shopping!
