Before we began our watermelon activites we thought it would be a good idea to name our little friend. The name we decided on was Walter, but we called him Wally for short. We estimated how big around Wally was, how long he was, and how much he weighed. Prizes were given for the closest estimates. Then individually, we brainstormed as many adjectives we could think of for Wally. Some of the words to describe him were; juicy, crisp, striped, ripe, hard, smooth, and gigantic to name a few. We then played the game "Scratch" with our list of adjectives.
After lunch we went outside and sat in the shade on our beach towels to munch on the delicious watermelon, while Mrs. Douglas read us another chapter from The Trumpet of the Swan. What a glorious day the Best Buddies had!
