Student play was a sucess!

Student play was a sucess! Students did a great job with this student produced and directed spoof of The Three Little Pigs. In this version it was three little wolves and a big bad bunny, who eventually becomes overwhelmed by the sweet smell of a house made of flowers. Our next production will be next Friday with another group of students, along with an encore performance of today's play. Great job!

IXL Will Help!

In an effort to ensure students are continuing to practice skills we have covered this school year I have decided to utilize the web based tool of IXL on a more regimented and consistent basis.  It gets great results when utilized regularly.  At this time we have covered in some form or fashion 46 different skill-sets within this program here in class.  This is quite a bit of information, and if not reviewed on a regular basis can lead to a lack of retention for later application.  My goal is to have students performing at a 90% success rate or better in each of these areas, with more to come as we progress through the remainder of the school year.  In order for this to be a success students must practice on a regular basis at home.  I have provided a list of the areas I would like them to focus on.  Once your child gets a 90% or better in a given area they may check it off, have you sign it, and move on to the next skill.  I have sent a hard copy of this and the skills you child should work on home.  I have also attached it to be downloaded.  This list should remain in the front of your child’s binder for review.  If at any time your child seems to be struggling in any particular area please contact me so I can clarify any misunderstandings that they may have.  Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping your child excel here at school!

Valentine's Day is Coming Soon

 Valentine's Day is around the corner!  Students will be given a white sandwich bag in class to decorate at home.  This will be used as their Valentine "mailbox".  Please remember that your child should bring in Valentines for each member of the class (24 students).  No special friend gifts may be given and we will not exchange Valentines between classes. For the second year, Murdock will be offering family members the ability to buy a Valentine note and lollipop for your children. Each one will cost a dollar. It/they will be delivered to your child in class on the big day (Friday, Feb. 12)!  Proceeds will benefit the school's "Walk for the Cure" team.  Information will be coming home soon.

Area Quiz Tomorrow

Parents,

Tomorrow we will have a quiz over the area of a triangle, quadrilateral, parallelogram, and compound figures.  It is imperative that students review their geo journal and have the necessary formulas memorized, or the quiz will be extremely difficult for them to accomplish.

Review and Reinforce

Parents:

Beginning this week students will be given warm-up activities to complete each morning prior to the official start of the day.  These activities are meant to help your child review and reinforce math and language content covered this school year.  I would like students to have them completed and ready to review by Friday of each week.  It would be very helpful if you would ask your child to see their warm-up activities daily to review the topic with them and ensure they have it completed and ready to go by Friday.  They have been instructed to keep these items in the very front of their binder.  Thanks for all of your help and support!  See everyone next week at conferences.  Please be sure to e-mail me any specific questions or concerns ahead of you scheduled time in an effort to make the most of our time together.
