Media Center Lessons for 10/29-11/9

K-1Night_catst Graders are busy learning that alphabetical order is very important in the library.  We're also reading a special book called Night Cat with the lights down low!

2nd Graders are getting ready to do a research project by learning to use the Cobb Virtual Library to find reliable information on the internet.  They can access the CVL from home by going to the Media Center blog and choosing CVL under Quick Links...or just click the above link.

3rd Graders are also learning about the Cobb Virtual Library and about using nonfiction print resources when they're searching for facts and information.

4th Graders continue to focus on Literature Genres and how they can use the online catalog (Destiny) to find just what they want.

5th Graders are digging a little deeper into all the resources available on the Cobb Virtual Library .  They're getting ready to do "smart" research!

2nd - 5th Grade students will receive a special bookmark with the necessary passwords for home use of the Cobb Virtual Library .

Book Fair Blizzard a Huge Success!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! OncImages3_2e again, Murdock families showed their LOVE for reading by coming out to the Book Fair for lots of fun and great books!  Thousands of books were sold and fun was had by all!   Our wonderful Book Fair volunteers made it all possible!  They even built an igloo entrance!  Best of all, Murdock families are READING!  All Book Fair profits support the purchase of books and materials for the Media Center.  Thanks for helping us grow our collection and our media center program!

Media Center Lessons for 10/15-10/26

K and 1st Graders are learning about title pages in books.  What does an "author" do?  An "illustrator?"  What's a "publisher?"

2nd Graders are discovering how to use the online catalog's Visual Search to track down the books they want AND how to use a book's Call Number to find it on the shelf.  Can't have one without the other!

3rd Graders are learning the two-step process of using the online catalog (Destiny) to identify nonfiction books AND then using a book's Call Number to locate it on the shelf.  Fairy_tale_4

4th Graders are being introduced to Literature Genres ~ Traditional Literature, Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, etc.  How can the online catalog lead them to just what they need to meet their reading goals?

5th Graders are learning about the pitfalls of bogus websites and trying to wade through TOO MUCH information on the internet.  The solution?  Use the Cobb Virtual Library!
