McConkey's Monkeys

Update

The Monkey's are bringing home their first bag of books. You will find a form with the directions, a strategy card, and 3 books in the bag. We are working on fluency so please do not be concerned if you feel these are too easy. These books are to build intonation and fluency. These skills will improve comprehension skills.

Remember that your child should be going on IXL each night to practice math skills. They should work on first grade number concepts, addition, subtraction, place value and skip counting. The program generates a report and sends it to me so that I can see if everyone is doing their part in practicing skills. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

Pet Rock

I have given each child a "pet" rock. I walked the beach while out in California and found rocks along the water's edge. Each child has the task of naming the rock, creating a life style and family for their "pet" rock. I have given them until Monday 9/19 to bring in any items they feel they need to set this up. Once we have completed our activities for the "pets", your child will be able to bring all items, including the "pet" home. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Writing

Your child has brought home a writing form. This form is to be filled out with your help. Once the topic areas have been completed, please send it back to school. Your child will use this to help with the writing process. It will be kept in their Writing Notebook. All forms should be in by Monday, 9/19/11.

 

Friday, 9/16 will be our first "Sharing" Day. Your child does not have to share each week. Speaking in front of others and communicating affectively, is a skill we work on throughout the school year so each student will be expected share occasionally . They may show something or just tell about something. I hope everyone enjoys getting to know one another.
