Happy New Year!

I hope you each had a wonderful break! My time was spent with my family and friends. I enjoyed using my cup and tray for the big game on Monday. The gift card was used as part of my "retail therapy" over the break. I was able to buy several fun whiteboard learning games. Thank you for all of your kindness and thoughtfulness.

The children came back rested and anxious to share all of the fun times they had over the break. Time will be given for the children to share with the others, as well as, draw and write about their favorite part of the weeks away.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving! I have missed all of my "Monkeys". I know you were in good hands with Mrs. Zegers. Upon our return on Monday, November 28, I look forward to getting caught up with all of the fun and learning that took place during my absence. Enjoy your weekend!

ONLINE PAYMENT FOR ASP FEES NOW AVAILABLE:
Starting Monday, November 7th, you can pay for Murdock's After School Program online with a credit card through the MealPayPlus service. Register for your free account at www.mealpayplus.com if you're not already registered to pay for your student’s lunches. You'll need your student's school ID number to COME TO MURDOCK'S FALL

October 10-14

Please remember to send back the conference form A.S.A.P. If you cannot make the time assigned to you I will do my best to reschedule you at a different time. Mornings are not available. Our first field trip permission form came home Friday. Don't forget to make a lunch choice at the bottom of the form. Continue to have your child practice addition and subtraction facts to 10 on IXL. Your child should read from their library book to/with you each night. Encourage them to read with expression. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

October News

October 5, 6, 7, are testing days for the CogAT. We will begin right after announcements, so please be on time. Due to testing, no reading packs will be sent home. Continue to practice math on IXL.

October 7 Conference letters come home. A day and time will be filled out. Send back the form as soon as possible. Days and times have been coordinated with siblings' teachers. Let me know as soon as possible if we need to reschedule. Conference week is October 24-28. This will be an early release week.

October 20 is the First Grade Performance.

 

Update

The Monkey's are bringing home their first bag of books. You will find a form with the directions, a strategy card, and 3 books in the bag. We are working on fluency so please do not be concerned if you feel these are too easy. These books are to build intonation and fluency. These skills will improve comprehension skills.

Remember that your child should be going on IXL each night to practice math skills. They should work on first grade number concepts, addition, subtraction, place value and skip counting. The program generates a report and sends it to me so that I can see if everyone is doing their part in practicing skills. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

Pet Rock

I have given each child a "pet" rock. I walked the beach while out in California and found rocks along the water's edge. Each child has the task of naming the rock, creating a life style and family for their "pet" rock. I have given them until Monday 9/19 to bring in any items they feel they need to set this up. Once we have completed our activities for the "pets", your child will be able to bring all items, including the "pet" home. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Writing

Your child has brought home a writing form. This form is to be filled out with your help. Once the topic areas have been completed, please send it back to school. Your child will use this to help with the writing process. It will be kept in their Writing Notebook. All forms should be in by Monday, 9/19/11.

 

Friday, 9/16 will be our first "Sharing" Day. Your child does not have to share each week. Speaking in front of others and communicating affectively, is a skill we work on throughout the school year so each student will be expected share occasionally . They may show something or just tell about something. I hope everyone enjoys getting to know one another.
