The Leapfrogs have been busy!
Here is a look at our week:
Writing: The children have been working hard at writing the sounds that they hear in words.
We practice 3 types of spelling:
Eye spelling: Looking for the word somewhere in the room and copying it.
Ear spelling: Sounding words out and writing the sounds that you hear.
Brain spelling: These are words that individual children already know how to spell. (Like their name!)
Math: We have been working on counting and comparing sets. The children have also started to count pennies and play games with coins. Next week we will introduce trading 5 pennies for 1 nickel.
Social Studies and Science: We have sorted and compared animals several different ways, including how they move and body coverings. The children are learning a song about where we live. The song starts with Murdock and we fill in our city, state, country, continent and planet!
We met with our 5th grade book buddies today, as well as checked books out from the library and learned about mouse skills in the computer lab! I will post the web site that we used in the lab on my blog. Your child may enjoy visiting it at home!
Thank you so much for sending in apple treats for Monday! The children will have fun tasting all of the different foods as we celebrate the birthday of Johnny Appleseed!
Enjoy your weekend!
