Dear Lightning Bugs:
We have gotten a lot accomplished this week. My favorite is the rollout of the SCOOT PAD website. Parents: PLEASE log on to the site and get your child 200 coins for your participation. I have stocked my prize cabinet!
In math we are finished with fractions for this quarter. The two links above have to do with fractions.
In reading, we started a unit on characters. Each child has a reading partner with whom they read the same book and discuss their characters. We will continue this unit until the break in December.
In writing, we just started drafting paragraphs for our animal reports.
In Social Studies, we finished a book on the abolitionist, Frederick Douglass. Ask your child to tell you what they learned about him.
In Science, we conducted a lab on soils and the rate with which water can pass through different types of soils. (percolation rate)
Also this week, we were able to see the Pope High production of Alice in Wonderland. What a great job they did. I recommend it if you want to see it this weekend.
Next Week:
Monday: Science Lab
Tuesday: Puppet Show and Media Center
Thursday : International Night at 6:30
Friday: Talent Development & Guidance Lesson
Curriculum Briefings:
Math: Data, measurement and the line plot
Reading: Prediction with characters
Writing: Continue first drafts of animal reports
SS: Susan B. Anthony
Sci: Soils
Have a great weekend! Make sure your children are reading and LOGGING their efforts on their orange reading logs.
