SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

Dear Families, students and staff,

I believe we had a very successful year. Thanks to everyone who helped make my first year as a school nurse great. Some days are like working in the Emergency Room. Congratulations to the 5th graders that are advancing to Middle School. I wish you all the best.

FYI:

We have added new equipment to the clinic.

1. Emergency Cart with necessary medications in case of a true emergency or fire. Medications are provided for students by their parents. (I.e. asthma, allergy and seizure)

2. Lice light with a special UV bulb to help identify lice nits.

Clinic Needs:

The clinic closet is in need of gently used pants, socks and underwear. Clothing sizes 8-16 for both boys and girls.

Our filed trip bags need portable ice packs, towels, small water bottles, Band-Aids, purse sized tissues, and gauze.

Pick up medications:

All medications must be picked up from the clinic before the last day of school. Please make arrangements if you would like to pick your child's meds up in ASP. Students may not transport medications in their back packs and any unclaimed medications will be disposed of on the last day of school.

Greetings

Hello Murdock Families!!

It’s my first year at Murdock Elementary. I have been a pediatric nurse for 17 years. My experience is in ortho/ neuro/ trauma, home health, and telephone triage, and the emergency room. I continue to work at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite in the Emergency Department on occasional weekends and in the summer.  School nursing has proven to be a very busy job! I am enjoying my new role as a school nurse and look forward to an exciting year.

The clinic is open from 7:45am to 2:45pm.  If you did not list a medical concern or special need your child may have on their clinic card, please let me know so I can properly care for them.

Medications at school:

Cobb County Policy does not allow any dispensing of medication by the school nurse unless it has been brought in by the parent in the original container, or properly labeled prescription bottle along with the proper authorization forms. Medication cannot be transported with the child via their backpack. It must be brought in by parents. We now have a new school health website which has all of the authorization forms available for download. You will also find allergy action plan forms, asthma forms and other relevant information. I am always available for any questions or concerns you may have.

Clinic Clothes Donations:

Some of our clinic clothes have seen better days. The items currently needed are gently used pants sizes 8-12, socks, and underwear of all sizes are greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the generous parents that have already donated this year. Our students appreciate it too.

Murdock is a HEART SAFE school!

Every Cobb County school now has an Automatic External Defibrillator!  The defibrillator can save the life of someone who has a sudden cardiac arrest by shocking the heart back into a sustaining rhythm.  Our generous PTA purchased a second AED since the Murdock campus has grown even bigger.  Only those people trained in the use of an AED are permitted to use them.  The first one is located in the hall outside the front office and the second is outside the second grade hall.

Once again, ask if you have any questions.
