January-February 2009

Well, we had a wonderful holiday season here at school.  We went to Town Center at Cobb at saw the Build-A-Bear store.  We saw them making a kitty cat.  That was cool!

We were also able to visit Santa.  He listened to what we wanted for Christmas and gave us candy canes.  He posed for a picture with us.

In January, we learned about the cold weather and the snow.  Even though we didn't get any this year, we were able to make some snow in the science lab at school.  We are still hoping that it snows soon.

In February, we learned about Valentine's Day and about penguins.

Check back during the week of February 16th for pictures and more updates.

Week Ending October 24th

We are excited this week.  Our book was "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything."  It is a fun book about an old lady who goes for a walk and meets up with some very "active" pieces of clothing!  Then she runs into a pumpkin who does scare her, maybe just a little.  They all follow her home and she finds a job for them scaring the crows in her garden!  We learned all about building a scarecrow and how noisy clothes can really be.

We made paper doll scarecrows with pumpkin heads just like in our story. On Friday, in cooking, we are making scarecrows out of Ritz crackers and other good things.

Our trip to Cherokee Outdoor YMCA was fun.  It rained and the kindergarten class decided not to go.  But we went had a great time.  We got a lot of attention and learned many things about colonial life.  We learned about all the chores that the families needed to do.  We saw the toys that the children played with way back then.  We got our pumpkins from the pumpkin patch and had a picnic under the pavillion.  We did not let a little rain get us down!  We're tough!  Thanks, Cherokee Y, for a great field trip!

We received some CBI money from some students.  Thanks!  If you are not sure if you owe any money, send Gail a note and we will be glad to check your balance.

Next week our theme will be spiders!  We will be doing some fun activities for the Halloween celebration.

We always need snacks.  Please send in healthy food for our afternoon snack time.  Thanks!

Week of ending October 10th

We had a good week.  Our book was "Pumpkin, Pumpkin" by Jeanne Titherington.  It is about a boy named Jamie who plants a pumpkin seed.  After watching the pumpkin grow, he carves it and saves some seeds for planting in the spring.

We did some pumpkin activities this week.  On Friday, we carved a Jack-O-Lantern and roasted the pumpkin seeds.  Boy, were they good!

Next Friday, October 17th, we are going with the kindergarten class to the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA.  They have a pumpkin patch there and we will get to pick our own pumpkins.

Because we are going on a field trip next week, our CBI has postponed one week to Thursday, October 23rd.  Please send in money if your balance is low.

We always need snacks.  Please send in healthy food for our afternoon snack time.  Thanks!

Week of October 2nd

We are continuing to work on our own goals.  We are playing football in PE.

Our theme this week was Apples and Pumpkins.  We read the book called Apples and Pumpkins.  It was about going to the Comstock Farm and see the animals and the apple orchard and the pumpkin patch.

We have gone to IHOP and Pike's Family Nursery and Panera Bread Company on CBI's.  We really like going out as a group to the stores and restaurants.

Classroom needs:

Right now, all we need are snack foods.

Classroom business:

Everyone got their CBI balance in their notebooks today.

Good News!  We are going on a field trip to the Cherokee YMCA.  The date is Friday, October 17th.  It will cost each child $15.00.  The permission slip will come home this weekend and the money is due as soon as possible.
