The Author’s Chair plays an integral role in building a community of writers. Once a week students are able to share their writing with the entire class by reading aloud in the Author’s Chair. The audience is expected to be quiet and attentive as the reader speaks clearly and loud enough for the entire class to hear. Students are encouraged to give specific, positive feedback. This is modeled by the teacher before the students give their “wows”. The teacher will then express one “wish” or a specific point to work on for next time. The entire audience gives a cheer from our Cheer Box to show our appreciation for the author’s writing. (Watch Dr. Jean do her cheers @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hsOFYEMSvI )
