Our Final Day as Funky Flamingos 2007 -  2008

It has been an awesome year of milestones for us in the flamingo pond.  We learned how to read books.  We learned how to write in our journals. We learned how to use the Smartboard. We learned all about math...graphing, measurement, counting, addition and subtraction,  to name just a few.  We have learned appropriate school behaviors like walking in the hallways, raising our hands before we speak, and taking turns with our classmates.  We have grown intellectually, physically and emotionally.  It has been an unforgettable adventure.  Now our Funky Flamingos are ready to spread their wings and fly. 

First grade, here we come!

My Trip to Thailand

  I just returned from a 14 day trip to Thailand.  It was a beautiful adventure!  I got to ride an elephant, sample Thai cuisine, and teach a Fun Camp to children on the Thailand-Burma border.  I brought Murphy the Mustang along for the ride.  The public school in Muang Nga asked me to speak at their assembly.  Look at the spectacular photos:     

5th Grade Walk

We celebrated the 5th graders' final walk through the halls of Murdock Elementary.  We decorated posters and played instruments as they paraded through!  The procession was led by Murphy the Mustang, followed by retirees Mrs. Sanborn, Mrs. Pitters and Mrs. Staats and Dr. Stasiak, who is transferring to Garrison Mill Elementary.  WE'LL MISS YOU!

Parents in Paradise

We held our Parents in Paradise celebration on Friday, May 16th.  It was a fabulous display of technology skills, crafts and hula dancing.  The Funky Flamingos wowed parents with their power point reports on ocean creatures.  Then they recited poems, sang songs and danced the hula before giving their parents crafts that they made for them in appreciation for all of their support this year.  It was a fine culmination of the school year! 

Field Day

Yesterday we enjoyed Opening Ceremonies for our Field Day.  We wore red, white and blue and carried the flag of Thailand.   

Today we had perfect weather for Field Day.  We enjoyed stations like tug of war, 50 yard dash and a moonwalk.  By 11:00 a.m., we were exhausted and hungry!

 

Murdock's Young Author's Tea

Congratulations to Emily Pakula, who represented our class in the Murdock Young Author's Tea.  She read her book, My Friend Rose, in front of an audience of attentive parents and grandparents.  Way to go Emily!

Our Trip to Zoo Atlanta

We had a wonderful trip to Zoo Atlanta on Monday.  The weather was perfect - no snow flurries!  The students enjoyed eating outdoors and seeing the animals we have been studying.     

Wright Environmental Education Center

The Flamingos had an interesting field trip to the Wright Environmental Education Center on March 24th.  We took a nature walk, listed living and nonliving things and put different creatures in their habitats.  We even encountered a few snow flurries!

 

Class Author's Tea

We held our class Author's Tea on March 26th.  The students did an outstanding job of writing, illustrating and reading their books.  What wonderful progress they have made this year!  Thank you to all parents, who not only have supported our class this year, but also provided delicious refreshments for our tea. 

Volcanoes

Today we made volcanoes from modeling clay, film canisters, baking soda, food coloring and vinegar.  It was a blast!  We talked about magma, the magma chamber and lava.  Later in the day we made volcanoes with vanilla ice cream and cherry 7 Up.  This time we got to eat our volcanoes!
