Fluency Homework
This week we will begin to have fluency homework each Wednesday until students reach our reading fluency goals of 120 words per minute. Students are expected to read smoothly and with expression, not too fast and not too slow. The goal of the homework is to give parents an opportunity to see how their child is reading and how their child is making progress toward meeting the third grade standard. This should take no more than 5 minutes of family time once everyone understands what to do.
The link below provides directions and the form that will be used for the reading fluency homework. Please send an email if you have questions.
At Home Government Project
What: Visual to show how the U.S. government is organized including roles/responsibilities
When: Due October 25th
This week students are asked to begin a project at home. They may use their notes on government and classroom materials, such as construction paper, scissors, glue and markers to complete the project. The goal of the project is to give children extra practice with reading and remembering the branches and levels of government, as well as the roles and responsibilities each branch and level.
Students are to make a visual to show how the U.S. government is organized by branches and by levels. This visual should also show an example of a role or responsibility of each branch and each level of government.
Notice that the tree below shows the branches and levels of government, but it does not show examples of the roles and responsibilities of each level and branch.
An example of a visual that does show roles and responsibilities is shown below. On both examples the levels of each branch are a different color.
Your child's visual does not have to be in the form of a tree. The visual is left to your own child's creativity. However, they are welcome to use a tree if that is what they prefer.
