Here is what's in store for this week:

9/26/11

Math:

* writing and interpreting mathematical expressions

* Chapter 3 test

* estimating differences

Writing:

Revising to:

* focus on a main idea

* add supporting details

* add dialogue and actions to make characters interesting

* to make sure our writing is developed and complete

Reading:

Using active reading strategies: making inferences, interpreting informational text features, recognizing and comparing setting, characters and plot

Social Studies:

* United States Government: taxes

* Government test-Thursday

Science

* Friday- weathering and erosion

* Picture day is Wednesday

* identifying addition properties and using them to improve our mental math fluency

* use the inverse operation to find missing addends

* use rounding to estimate sums

* use the strategy, guess and check, to solve word problems

Writing:

Making our writing engaging by capturing the audience attention in the beginning and ending sentences

Reading:

Using active reading strategies: questioning and making inferences

Social Studies: Government continued- see the textbook to support your child with studying.

* United States Government: 3 branches of government, the roles and responsibilities of each branch and each level (national, state, and local levels)

This week's highlights:

* Science Lab visit for part 2 of rocks and minerals

* Special visitors from Well Star to speak to us about nutrition

Test on chapter 2 skills- Wednesday

using properties of addition to find missing addends and develop mental math strategies

Making our writing engaging by capturing the audience attention through building reactions and word choice

Social Studies:

United States Government at the national and local level: 3 branches of government, the roles and responsibilities of each branch and each level
