IMG_0610 IMG_0609Social Studies      We have completed our study of Jimmy Carter by creating a Habitat House. The walls are filled with information about this famous Georgian. We had a great time working on these. Our final lessons will focus on the ways in which goods and services are allocated.

Math      Just having a little fun with tangrams after finishing our CRCT exams. We will finish the year with lots of problem solving and logical thinking skills.

Math    As we begin our final nine weeks of school, our math curriculum will focus on the meaning of multiplication. We will be learning about several ways to solve problems. Some of these strategies include using a multiplication table, drawing arrays, skip counting, and repeated addition. The kids are eager and ready to learn.

Spelling      New Core Words:      right       look       think       also        around

Writing     We are currently working on Persuasive Writing. The kids have written on some pretty  interesting topics. They argued for chewing gum at school, choosing their own bedtimes, and having snack machines in the lunchroom. They had some very convincing reasons.

CRCT      I'm sure that your student has been trying to take over the family computer lately. They need to take 20 practice tests and get your signature on their card in order to be invited to Murphy's Monumental Event. On the last day of March all cards need to be signed and returned to school. The party will be on the last day of school before Spring Break. It promises to be lots of fun! Don't miss out!

                                            Career

Thank you to our wonderful counselors and parent volunteers for providing us with such a great Career Day. Our second graders loved hearing from a physical therapist, a surgical technician, and a video game creator. We loved they way they stressed how important it was to work hard in school.

Math    We have been having fun learning all about fractions. Our fraction pieces and smart board have had a great workout this week. Don't forget to visit the Fun Websites and practice creating some flag designs using your knowledge of fractions.

Us_capitol_america_md_wht  Social Studies          Our unit on government began with a discussion of the original colonies working to gain independence from England. Your student should be able to share with you the importance of The Declaration of Independence. Our current focus is on the different levels of government: local, state, and national. Be sure that your child can define the concept of government and give example of services that our taxes provide.

Reading/Writing      All of our non- fiction reading is really coming in handy as we are working on turning our research on animals into a Power Point presentation. After a few more session in the computer lab, we should be able to present our "shows" to the rest of the class. I know that I can't wait to see the finished projects.
