Homework Clinic - F.A.Q.

How is the Homework Clinic different than regular homework time during ASP?

The homework clinic is going to be more of a help session rather than an independant session.  There are older students to help and monitor.  In addition, computer access is available which they never had in the past.

Do we need to sign up for the Homework Clinic?  When will the Clinic start?
Homework clinic is now a regular part of ASP.  It is the same  time as the old homework time, rather "beefed up".

Can a student choose to do their homework after the allotted homework time rather than going to games and/or large group activity?  ABSOLUTELY - In ASP there should always be a CHOICE for the children.  ASP should be a fun enriching time.

If so, do they need to have permission from someone to do so?  One of the instructors will stay behind to supervise anyone who is not done.  If there are only one or two children, they may sit next to the check out desk to complete their work.

I've been meaning to ask this, but do the Kinders play with the older kids outside?  In the past the entire group was outside together.  We have a new schedule that has a more staggered approach to outside time.  There is some time where they are together, but we will keep an eye on it and manage the behavior.

Are there any sports programs that are offered to the ASP kids that are located there at Murdock?  The ASP staff is in the process of creating "clubs" for the kids that are free of charge (I think lacrosse was a YMCA event that had a fee).  Some of the clubs will be sports oriented and some will be more like games and crafts.  It is still in the works, look for the flyer to come home.

REGISTRATION AND FEES

The After School Program is available from 2:30-6:00 PM for those students, grades K- 5, who attend Murdock Elementary and are registered in the program.

Any changes to your child’s ASP schedule must be in writing.

Please remember to be prepared to show identification when you pick your child up from the After School Program.

REGISTRATION FEE

A non-refundable annual registration fee of $10 per child is required.

DAILY FEE

ASP is a “PRE-PAY" program of $7 per day/per child.

A late charge of $1 per minute/per child will be charged if your child is not picked up by 6:00 PM.

Your child will be withdrawn from the program after the third late pick up, or if your account falls in arrears, per Cobb County School District ASP program rules.

Taxpayer revenues do not fund this program.

This fee ensures that After School Programs continue to be self supporting, operate efficiently and provides required teacher to student ratios and enrichment activities. The daily tuition pays for all staffing needs, snacks, enrichment activities and supplies for the After School Program.

Please look for other general rules established by Cobb County on the information sheet you signed when you registered your child for ASP.

Behavior and Discipline Policy

Student conduct rules are set by Cobb County and apply while the After School Program is in session.

Rules are established to ensure the safety of all children.

Fighting and disrespect will not be tolerated in ASP.

Cobb County established a "write-up" policy. A student can be written-up if specific rules are broken. After three "write-ups" your child will be withdrawn from the program.

Students may be suspended or withdrawn from the ASP program for the following reasons:

• Discipline problems

Three late pick-ups

• Non-payment of fees

• Principal’s discretion

Homework Policy

Homework time is established based upon the child’s age and grade.

All grades 1st through 5th will be given homework time.  Kindergarten students will not have homework time.  Please see the schedule of activities for specific times.

For your child to properly complete his or her homework, the proper materials are needed.  Please ensure that your child is in possession of the basic materials (a pencil, paper, etc.).

Sometimes your child may not have homework or enough to keep him or her busy for the full homework time.  Please make sure that your child has a book that he or she can read.

ASP staff are on hand to provide assistance, but will not be checking for accuracy or completion.  Parents are responsible for ensuring accuracy and completion of homework from home.

Please let us know if you have any special circumstances that ASP should be aware of.
